How far in advance should I order my custom cake?
Clients book services with us anywhere from 3 months to 2 years out, but on average about 8-12 months out. It is always good to check with us early to make sure we can accommodate your order and make sure the date is available (this applies to birthdays and other events too!) During the busy May-October wedding season we tend to book up quickly.
What is your cake pricing?
Pricing for custom cakes depends on the number of servings and level of detail involved. This can vary greatly between designs so cakes are quoted on a cake-by-cake basis. Buttercream cakes start at $5.00/serving and detailed/fondant/novelty designs start at $6.50/serving. We have a $350.00 minimum order for wedding orders requiring delivery, and a $150.00 minimum order for other custom orders.
Do you offer cake tastings?
Yes! We offer both in-person tastings at our studio, or take-home style tasting boxes. For each of these, we include an assortment of our popular and seasonal flavors. In person tastings are $45.00* and take-home boxes are $35.00. If you end up booking your wedding cake with us and book a cake order of $250.00 or more, $25.00 of the tasting fee goes back toward your cake.
What are sugar flowers? And how much do they cost?
At Wildflour Cake Design, we specialize in not only custom cakes, but also handmade sugar flowers. Our sugar flowers are made from scratch-made gumpaste, and crafted petal-by-petal. Gumpaste is a sugarpaste similar to fondant, but is much more flexible and dries hard, resulting in a timeless, porcelain-like flower to adorn your wedding or event cake, and that can also be kept as a keepsake. We love making realisitic, true-to-nature flowers, as well as fantasy versions, and all can be customized to best fit your design.
Can we use fresh flowers on our cake?
Absolutely! While we do love our sugar flowers, we also love the look of beautiful fresh flowers on cakes, especially on buttercream styles! Fresh flowers are usually provided by your florist so that everything matches and fits with the rest of your floral arrangements at your event. When delivering a large cake, we do ask that we (usually Asa) are the ones to place the fresh flowers on the cake. This is to ensure the protection of the cakes structure inside, as well as make sure they are made food-safe before inserting, and are placed on your cake to match the design we plan together.
Do you deliver?
Yes, we happliy deliver all orders involving 3-tiered cakes and larger orders over $350.00 (not including delivery fee, if applicable), and certain novelty or sculpted cakes which cannot be picked up. We deliver within the Bangor/Brewer area for free. Beyond the Bangor area, we charge $1.50/mile (one way, not round-trip) to your venue, and we also don't charge for the complimentary Bangor area miles. Delivery includes transport of your cake and small desserts, setup of your dessert table at the venue, placement of sugar or fresh flowers, and providing our cutting guides and information to your caterer or coordinator.
